Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

Intrusive thoughts can feel terrifying, shameful, or relentless—whether they center on contamination, harm, morality, relationships, or uncomfortable sensations in your body. I understand that you are not your thoughts, and you don’t have to be all alone in this! I use evidence-based approaches like Inference-Based CBT, Exposure and Response Prevention techniques, and EMDR techniques designed for OCD to help you break the cycle of obsessions and compulsions and reclaim your time and energy.

Common Experiences for those with OCD:

Unwanted mental intrusions – sudden, repetitive thoughts or images (often disturbing or “taboo”) that feel out of character.

  • “What if” loops – constant doubts like “What if I left the stove on?” or “What if I hurt someone?” even when you logically know you didn’t or won’t.

  • Ego-dystonic fears – the thoughts go against your values, which is why they feel so distressing.

Compulsions & Rituals

  • Checking – repeatedly verifying locks, appliances, or that you didn’t harm someone.

  • Avoidance – missing out on things you would normally love to do out of fear that the obsession could come true.

  • Cleaning or washing – in order to neutralize a feared contamination.

  • Counting, arranging, or repeating – doing actions “just right” or a certain number of times to reduce anxiety.

  • Mental rituals – silent prayers, mental reviewing, or trying to “cancel out” a thought.

  • Reassurance-seeking – Frequently checking that you did not offend a friend or make someone upset with you, or that you are making “the right decision”
